I attempted to install oo on my MAC o/s x but it asks me for the location of the x server, but I have no knowledge of this. How can this obstacle be overcome?

Hello,

Most likely, you do not have X11 installed on your Mac, which is required in order to use OpenOffice. To check if your Mac has X11 installed on it, please do the following:

1) Bring up Finder (the Smiley face icon in the dock).
2) Click on Applications.
3) Find the "Utilities" folder and open it.
4) Check for a program called "X11.app"

If the X11.app icon is not there, you have *not* installed X11 on your system. To install X11, please do the following:

1) Insert your OS X Installation Disk (Disc #1)
2) On the installation CD, find a folder called "System"
3) In the System folder, open a subfolder called "Installation"
4) Open another folder called "Packages."
5) Find the X11 installer file, called "X11User.pkg" -- open it and then follow the installation procedure.

This will install X11 on your Mac. Once this is done, restart your computer and then start OpenOffice.

Hope this helps,

Byron
