Concrete Newbe Questions - sdk, ure, UNO, api

Hey

I have a couple questions about start working with the OpenOffice.org2.0_SDK :

first of all : The plan is an universal (unformated) Text-Extractor for all office-docs (inc. MSOffice)

Now the things, I'm not realy understanding :
1. Can I connect to OOService having an URE instead of an OpenOffice.org enviroment ?
2. What is the diference between URE and OpenOffice.org enviroments ?
3. Is it right, that I can export documents to different (custom) formates by using filters ?

Answer to question 3
There is a lot of predefined filter but you can use your own XML filter if you want. See :
OpenOffice.org filters using the XML based file format http://xml.openoffice.org/filter/

or external (IBM) : Use XSLT to prepare XML for import into OpenOffice Calc http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/x-oocalc/

URE seems to be UNO without OpenOffice then I think the answer to question 1 seems to be NO.
