| I've recently been learning about the use of styles in openoffice.org 2.0.1 and want to know if I can somehow get a word count for all text with a particular style (e.g. word count of all text with 'Text Body' paragraph style). The standard word count feature just counts the whole document, and I want to know how many words I've written for a fixed-length essay (so exclude quotations, headers, contents table etc.). Is this possible? |

Yes. First do your word count including all text, then modify your body text style with character attribute "hidden." Repeat the word count and subtract the difference. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum

| Thanks for that tip. I suppose it's a work around rather than an easy way – I just need to set up an 'essay body' character style and apply it appropriately. Easier than selecting text and adding up the numbers repeatedly though. |

| Another approach is to do Find & Replace and search for you style with Find All. Then, while the different sections are still selected, do Tools > Word Count. |
