|
|
Just need to get the frustration out!
I have been using SUBTOTAL a bit today and now realise that it automatically treats the first line as a heading and does not include it in the total. That makes my results unreliable.
I have now made a mental note to not use it again till there is an option to not do this (as is the case with SORT)
Or have I missed something? _________________ carl

I think that Data Subtotals ... is working as intended. The first row is always treated as a heading and is used to distinguish the columns that you wish to use in grouping. Your results will always be consistent with this.
The subtotal function which is inserted automatically by the use of the menu option above specifies the cells to be included in the subtotal exactly. That is, the range does not include the header row. |

Thats exactly my difficulty!
If a set of data doesnt have a heading (for instance when it just an intergral part of a longer list) then I have to create one temporarily to get round this auto assumption.
I am convinved that I could organise my thoughts to fit with SUBTOTAL but I am not so far sighted, as a mere person I change my mind and SUBTOTAL is too inflexible for me. _________________ carl

| I would go along with your idea, if only for consistency. Put in an enhancement request technically it would not be a big deal . I don't have excel to hand but you might be able to make a case by comparison withthe functionality there. |
