| I have tried to setup an outline using Tools>Outline numbering. My goal is roman numeral, then alphabet (capitals), then arabic numeral. When I type my document the alphabet characters are skipped - the outline goes from roman numerals to arabic numerals. Also I saved this format and gave it a name but I cannot find it looking through all the Stylist choices. Help? |

Tools > Outline Numbering
For Level1, select Heading1, Number I,II,III,...
For Level2, select Heading2, Number A, B, C,..
For Level3, select Heading3, Number 1, 2, 3,..
Using the paragraph styles:
Heading 1
Heading 2
Heading 3
You will get something like this:
I text text (heading 1)
I.A text text (heading 2)
I.A.1 text text (heading 3)
I.A.2 text text (heading 3)
II text text (heading 1)
Is this what you want ?

actually I'm hoping to get these results:
I. topic 1
A. point A
1. details to point A
2. more details to point A
B. point B
1. details
II. topic 2
etc.
There will be levels of indentation at each item. |

As Wesland said.
I is Heading level 1
A. is Heading level 2
1. is Heading level 3
i is heading level 4
II is heading level1
and so on

| Got it! I have been studying the manual thoughout this effort and finally realized that to duplicate the example I had to go through a List Style to modify a Numbering Style, none of which made me think I was going to end up in an Outline Style. |

For each Outline Level: Change "Show sublevels" to "1" and put a period in "Separator/After" on the Numbering page. Set the indentation on the Position page. |

If you use list or numbering styles, then you should not apply them to the default heading styles unless you use Tools - Outline Numbering to remove the link between the heading styles and outline levels. In Word, the heading styles have to be linked to outline levels manually. In Writer, the heading styles are linked to outline levels by default. |
