Hi,
is it legal to use the file icons of OO 2 in another commercial application?
If yes, are there any bmp versions available?
I found a headline about this in the marketing group, but it seemed to be private.
Thanks for your help

OOo is licensed under the LGPL. Read it:
http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/lesser.html
In summary you would have to release your application under LGPL so you would not be able to include the icons in a application using the standard commercial model. _________________ Arch Linux

Hi,
thanks for your answer.
As I would not use any source code, but only the icons, would a statement in e.g. the about box along with the distribution of the LGPL license be enough?
Regards

No, that doesn't work unfortunately. If you distributed the icons in a seperate package licensed under the LGPL that would be fine. The (L)GPL isn't simply about source code, it's about all content. _________________ Arch Linux

| I think the KDE Crystal icon and GNOME Industrial icon themes are created by parties outside the Sun development team. You might want to check to see if they would like to re-license it another way. Although I doubt they would see any need or benefit for such re-licensing. |
