In OpenOffice 2.0 Writer, when I insert a cross-reference, I'm given the option to format it as Page, Chapter, Reference, Above/Below, or As Page Style. Near as I can tell, I can't format a cross-reference as footnote number. That is, so far as I can tell, there's no way for me to write "See Smith, supra note x" and be able to auto-update the value of x when the footnote in which Smith is found gets a new number. Am I correct about this? Is there a work-around to accomplish the same result?
Thanks very much.

Format as a reference.
- Type: Footnote
- Selection: Select the footnote from the list (they are sorted in numerical order, then alphabetical order)
- Format: reference
Then you can insert another cross-reference to the page number to get, for example:
See footnote 1 on page 241.
If you insert another footnote so that 1 becomes 2, the reference doesn't update at once, but will update if you generate the Table of Contents. Closing and reopening the document doesn't seem to work, but it probably does. There is a bug that resets notes numbered 1 to notes numbered 0. _________________ Fonts * Opera * Oo Tips * FAQ * New Forum
