I came across a nice page maintained by open source enthousiasts at EPFL Lausanne. They compiled a CD full of Open Source Software for Windows. This obviously includes OOo, Mozilla and the Gimp, but you will find a lot more corss-platform open source there. Their ilosophy is: let people use open source on their Windows systems. It'll facilitate teir transition to Linux later on.

I 100% agree with theyr philosophy!!! 
Yet, I still search that cross-platform open-source software list! 
Something that we can take a look month after month just to see what's going on on the
open-source scene. And, of course, to help us plan what software shall we install on
our (still) Microsoft-based boxes to later perform a 'warp speed' migration to Linux.
Man... You should really see this: On my company, this monday, I migrated a Win98 box
to Linux Mandrake 9... The person who worked before with a M$ desktop needed a
telnet session to connect to a Unix-based Informix data base, Word, Excel and Outlook
for internal e-mail.
Windows telnet is easy to 'migrate': Use the terminal window on linux...
Excel became Calc
Word became Writer
Outlook became Ximian Evolution.
And there you have it! Excelent migration! One less M$ licence to worry about in the
future! And the person who works with that workstation had minor teachings to stay
on the fast track!
Any way, wit the open-source cross-platform software list in some sort of web site or
forum, I could stay informed on a monthly situation to know what's there to make more
'easy' migrations!
Hell... If I can't find it, I will do it myself!

At my work, we are migrating some (and plan to migrate all) of our Windows machines to Linux.
We have a SAMBA-based network file server (with Linux Mandrake that replaced a
Windows NT Server) and we are working fine with some machines with Windows 98
S.E. and MS Office, others have Windows 98 S.E and OpenOffice, and, the most
ambitious one, some Linux Machines running OpenOffice, Ximian Evolution, etc.
We can open any TEXT document on the network either on Windows/MSOffice,
Windows/OOo, Linux/OOo.
I guess you see what we are trying to do... We try to work with the most cross-platform
compatible appications, and, if possible, Open Source ones!
Our goal is to have ALL Open Source software. I believe that what we should call-it
would be "Try to migrate to OpenSource Software with MS-style day-to-day working"
I keep on searchin for a substitute to MS-Access cross-platform yet... |

Cross-platform (Windows-Linux) applications know at the time:
OpenOffice.org - Full Office Application Suite (Word-processor, Spread sheet, Presentation, Vectorial Draw);
Mozilla - Web browser;
Netscape - Web browser;
The Gimp - Bitmap picture editor;
Acrobat Reader - PDF file reader;
etc... |

I am looking for functionality like Visio or Project, where I can make gantt charts and timelines. I could not find anything like that in Draw.
The ability to attach to a database is very helpful because the charts and timelines I need to show are in a SQL database.
