| When using OpenOffice, it starts with OO Writer. If I don't want Writer, and instead want Calc, I must then activate Calc. This leaves Writer open, which much be closed afterward. This is irritating if I have to do this 20 times a day. How Can I open Calc directly? |

On WIndows I simply click the "OpenOffice.org Calc" icon.
If that is not available, start soffice from your installation directory with the option "-calc".
With kind regards

Thanks for the reply. My OO (Windows 2000) installs only as "Open Office Program". It doesn't install with Calc or Write choices. The executable (soffice.exe) is in
"F:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.0\program\"
But iit still starts its own way (Write mode); nothing I do to the icon proeprtieshas any effect.
If I cahnge the shortcust file name from "soffice.exe" to "soffice.exe -calc", Windows rejects it as "not a valid file name". "soffice - calc" gets the same result - zero!
Failing all of the above, I am able to do "Start > Run > soffice -calc", but it's a primitive workaround. I still think OO ought to be able to do better than this. Windows is no help, either. |

Try with the -calc outside the quotes("). _________________ Pete |

Just make the shortcut point at scalc.exe instead of soffice.exe, you will find scalc.exe in the program directory together with soffice.exe and swriter.exe etc.
(OpenOffice 2 only though) _________________ www.kaaredyret.dk - OpenOffice resources (templates, extensions, tutorials and more) !

| Thanks - it worked! Although it's now obvious to me, it would've taken me 12 months to figure this out unassisted. |
