Hello,
I have just migrated in my office to OpenOffice from MSO. The scretaries have a very large document. They use to open it in no time with MS word 97. I have migrated that file to odt format and it takes about 20-30 seconds to open the file
What can I do to speedup that loading time?

Luis.

Is this document still in MS word Format ?. In this case, OOo has to convert it, each time it opens the file. Can't you save it in ODT format ?

The document is already in odt format. It is the first thing I have tried. In case anybody want to try to load the document, it is located in http://antares.sip.ucm.es/pr.odt

It opens in 10-20 seconds here; 7-10 seconds loading the file, then I think Writer is repaginating for 10 more seconds (400 pages).

OOo 2.0.2, 750MB RAM, XP HOME

In the computer I have, it takes longer. Obviously it depends on the computer and the Operating System. Anyway, why can MS-Word open the equivalent in no time and it takes much longer OpenOffice? I want to recall that, apparently, MS-Word opens it in no time.

Personally I think that time is not very important. But the stuff is complaining about the new system and I do not want to go back to MSO. Besides that document is awfully design...

It may be a psicological effect. While MS-Word is openning the document it shows wahtever it can. Could it be possible to get the same effect in OpenOffice? I already had to compile OpenOffice to include some patches, so compile it again does not scare me too much.

It opens in about 12 seconds for me. I don't know if it will help you but as I recall you can sometimes get some performance improvements by going to Tools -> Options... -> OpenOffice.org -> Memory and adjusting some of the cache parameters. It might be worth a try.

I increased the memory and it didn't help.
