Greetings All
Downloaded Oo tonight and like the look of it already ,however..
Oo (obviously) stores its files in its own format...
Fine if you're the only one working with them...
But , if you want to send something you've created to someone who only
uses MS products ,they will be unable to open them...
Is there a way around this..??
Plugin - emulator - Reader for the other guy...??
Haven't had chance to do an indepth search yet , looking for
a quick yes or no ,and a pointer if yes...
Much Appreciated

| go to Tools-Options Click Load/Save and General then change "Always save as.." to anything you want. You can change the file formats for all apps in OOo. Hope that helps |

| It's not a dumb question. It's probably the most important one to ask when using any office productivity suite. Fortunately, there are answers. I frequently exchange documents with microsoft users. It's a good idea (if you can) to check the saved file in microsoft office to make sure that it opens okay before sending it. |

Thanks to those who replied....
I probably would have found it , had I looked a little harder..
I truly couldn't believe that they would make something like this
and not be able to have it work with other suites.....
I'm pushing this program(s) BIG time...
Any computer that I work on that doesn't have an office suite ,will
be getting Oo'd........
Again , much appreciated...

| OOo saves its files in ZIP format, and contains a XML tree. I guess it can be viewed by many Net browsers? In that case all you need to do is unzip them to a directory. |

Why do people expect to get files in M$ formats? M$O is in no way superior.
People should start distributing their data in more general formats! CSV, RTF, plain text, XML... _________________ I sign for nobody |

Fine. Can I set the default saving-format to RTF or DOC (MS Word) ?
The reason for my question is, that I work (at work) 8 hours a day with MS-Word and MS-Excel, and I would like to work with OpenOffice (at home) for 2 or 3 hours, but it's essential for me, that I don't waste time in loosing formats.
When this is impossile, I have to wait, until the company migrates to OpenOffice.
Unfortunately they need somebody to say, use OpenOffice, because it has the following advantages ..... |

Get the decision makers to visit the OO.o and this forum and try OOo out in a few machines alongside with MS Office. They will be greatly impressed! |
