To Gabor:

To my knowledge, to import SVG you need to install a filter:
http://www.ipd.uni-karlsruhe.de/~hauma/svg-import/

I agree with you about the (no) real need for a clipgallery associated with a office suite. Altough I know several people with different opinions !
The only use for such clipgallery would be to save vector images saved from "Draw" files. Right now, when using Writer, I need to open-copy-paste images from draw to writer. It would be usefull if I could insert them.

to all interested users:

I am, Fenix*NBK*, the man who started to look after cliparts. I have _not_ updated the advanced cliparts for very long time... actually I leaved the project many months ago, that I once begun.

At the time there was little interest of the thing, so I got bored and moved onto other things...

Now I see some increased interest for the topic, so I will answer a few questions - explain hisotry, give some kind of status, and tips for those who want to continue th work:

History:
1) the original 400 cliparts collection that I used for "Advanced Cliparts v1" - was from sodipodi repository. The original version was targeted at Windows/OpenOffice 1.1.
This was a user-friendly, Windows-only setup.

sodipodi repository had SVG format images, that I manually (1-by-1) converted to OpenOffice-compatible formats and built an Installer.

2) All the 400 original cliparts moved to opencliparts.org project and then that project grew to several thousands of cliparts. But unfortunately, openclipart.org is NOT OpenOffice compatible, because all images are in SVG format instead of PNG/JPG, and they have no installer for OpenOffice.

3) When OpenOffice 2 was released - I decided it is time to upgrade the ClipArts as well - and the fact I was experimenting with Linux some time - gave me the reason to build the "new Advanced Cliparts" to be cross-platform.

To make cross-platform Advanced Cliparts Installer, I have used the opencliparts.org SVG cliparts, batch-converted them to PNG format (because OOo cannot use SVG format). batch-conversion -by the way- is only possible on Linux platform. At least I didn't find a way to batch convert SVG's to PNG's on Windows.
After I had the opencliparts (that had few thousand images) converted, I asked

DannyB to create a cross-platform Installer for OOo 2 using it's macros system, that ensured. The early version had a bug that the cliparts were dissapperaing after reboot, but later versions had the bug fixed.

The main advantage of such a cross-platform installer, that used OpenOffice 2.0 instead of Windows as a platform,
that it was a "build-once-run-everywhere" practise. Theoretically, I could just run that file on a Solaris UNIX, running on SPARC CPU, and it should work.

But I had a _very_ serious problem with the macro system - it wasn't scalable & and it was slow.

For a hunred cliparts, the macro approach worked fine, but for several thousands it required an hour on an AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz system to install the "Advanced Cliparts". The installation speed was unacceptable, I got bored, I had no hosting, and I decided to stop the project.

4) I don't give you the links, because the hosting I used was "temporarily",
and so most links broken anyway. Once there is good hosting, I will do
the links permanent for several versions of Advanced Cliparts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a message to next-generation users & developers:

1) There is a new version of OOo - called OpenOffice Premium 2.0 - that includes some cliparts from OOo extras, you might try it.

That version is unofficial of course.
Personally, I think it's a very good idea to have cliparts as a part of OpenOffice itself, even if it will add 100 or 200 MB
to the product download size.

2) Is there a way to make OOo Macros fast ?
one hour installation is unacceptable.

3) If 1 & 2 is not your way - then we should use the old, traditional way - Windows setup for cliparts, and Linux rpm.

4) Another possibility - is to go the Linux way of doing things.
have different projects - with different setups & modular architecture- like this:

Those are the main bandwidth taking components:
openoffice.rpm, opencliparts-png-format.rpm koffice.rpm,

and these are the bridges, between the office suites & opencliparts gallery.
openoffice-opencliparts-bridge.rpm, koffice-opencliparts-bridge.rpm

The purpose of the bridges - is to integrate opencliparts into the menus of the office suites. With this architecture - we can have only one opencliparts library connected to several Office suites, and using minimal HDD space.

5) If somebody can give me hosting, I might built the Windows setup version for OOo 2.

But cliparts take a lot of space & bandwidth - so be ready.
Free hostings disallow me to use much space, because they are targetted at source code/text, not at cliparts/graphics.

But I will do so, only if there is interest in ressurecting "Advanced Cliparts".

I can tell more information on the OpenOffice.org Premium hence I have created that modification for Openoffice.org source. The 2.0.2 version is on the way, without a such big news in the foreground as the first public release but In the background it changed a lot.
The source now fully compatible with OOo source so if you have working build machine you can apply it easily... If you won't build OOo from source you can enjoy it in Hungarian and English languages. The new OOoP will compatible with OOo localization process, building proces, so everybody can make a Premium version for his or her own mother tongue. And do not forget Premium is more than a simple clipart gallery it contans also templates and documents (samples), fonts, etc. So you can help in the development, be an OpenOffice.org Premium contributor today! Surprised)
What we need?
* Translators - translate the resource files to your language and send it them back to me
* Content creators/revisors - Send me templates and openoffice.org documentation (in OpenDocument Format) for your language. Collect as many as you can, but please keep out the poor, low quality content... Someone might recheck the English content of upcoming OOoP 2.0.2 - It is only a sample.
* Gallery submitters/coordinators/organisers - Send me a free galleries or images (mainly in vector based format) good quality SVG->WMF convertions may be interesting...
* Builders - to build OOoP with other language - I can do it, but I have only one machine and it is for work Surprised(
* Programmers - to develop a new ideas, make it better
* Voters - If you find it useful you can vote for integration:

62406 FEATUR P3 All issues@distribution UNCO OpenOffice.org Premium integration - Fonts (2/4)

Thanks,
KAMI

(As far as I know there is a way to conver svg with the import filer:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=2497
"Created an attachment (id=28207)
Updated version of SVG import filter."
---> http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/28207/svg2draw-r62.zip

or you can automatize it if you download xalan.jar from: http://apache.webhelyek.hu/xml/xalan-j/binaries/
then command: java -jar xalan.jar -IN butterfly.svg -OUT content.xml -XSL svg2draw.xsl
You can replace the content xml of empty odd...

Also you can use an uno component from here:
http://www.ipd.uka.de/~hauma/svg-import/
)

The last of all these can be installed with the package manager. It is OK.
The svg2draw-r62.zip is just a bunch of files for a lesser morta, and the xalan... site contains no less then 8 files. I am already very good at scrathing my head and staring at them all.

Is there anybody out there who can point the unexperienced and untrained (like myself) to a site where a description is given of what to to with the above?
TIA

hmmm... very interesting...

but I thought are are 5 OOo Premium extra components - 4 of which you wrote here (Cliparts, Fonts, Templates, Documentation) and fifth component which you forgot (is Dictionaries, right?).

But it's what I have collected from the 'net. I haven't downloaded OOo Premium yet, because the servers are dog slow ! (10 kbps out of nearly 200 for other servers like nVidia...)

Any mirrors for OOo Premium ? (if people can't see, they can't evaluate...)

The next version (2.0.2) will be mirrored at greater number of sites. We might have three FTP servers and also I would like to submit it to softpedia (With RO and US mirrors)

OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.2 is ready for Download!

OpenOffice.org Premium = OpenOffice.org + Extras

OpenOffice.org Premium is a free and open source enhancement of official OpenOffice.org. The Hungarian Native Language Team has modified the source of OpenOffice.org and bundled lot of extras with it. Here are just a few of the extras you get with OpenOffice.org Premium:

* Clip Art (currently more than 2,400 objects)
* Templates (number varies by language)
* Samples (number varies by language)
* Documentation (if available)
* Fonts (more than 90 fonts)

OpenOffice.org Premium is based on the latest and greatest version of OpenOffice.org – 2.0.2.
You can download OpenOffice.org Premium 2.0.2 from here:
ftp://ftp.fsf.hu/OpenOffice.org_hu/devel/OOB680_m5_Premium

Current language versions:
Hungarian (HU), English (EN-US)

Current platforms:
Linux and Windows

The modified source code can be downloaded here:
ftp://ftp.fsf.hu/OpenOffice.org_hu/devel/Source_mod

(Current version is: OOo202Premium-step7.zip )

The modified source code is available for everyone. It has been changed to
utilize all of OpenOffice.org features, including localization. If you'd
like to help us improve OpenOffice.org Premium, here are a few of the ways
you can get involved:
* Translators - translate the resource files to your language and send it them back to me
