How do you do automatic numbering in a table?

If you're typing plain text you can click on the "Number on/off" icon in the tool bar and the lines you type will be numbered automatically. The icon disappears when you're in a table. I have a table already created. I want the rows numbered. So I made a column on the far left side and I want the rows numbered from 1 to 50 starting with the first row at the top and going down. I've been doing this manually recently but it's a pain. How do I get the writer to number the rows, using the far left column? Thanks.

What version of OOo and what operating system are you using? This works for me using OOo 2.0.3 RC3 on Windows XP SP2.

Easy in Oo 2.02 on Windows.

Select the table column
Format, Bullets and Numbering
Select numbering style
Select the position tab and set indents to zero
Select justified right from the formatting toolbar
