I can't select text...user error or something else

Hi: I've been happily using this great free word processing program and very greatful for it's existence. It always seemed to work as any other WP program. However, recently I found I cannot move my cursor to text that I want to select and left click to drag my cursor over the text I wish to select. I will term this the "normal way" of selecting text

I can put the pointer over a word and click on the word to select the word. I can put the pointer/cursor over a sentence and triple left click to select the sentence/line. This seems unusual. I would suspect that it was my pointer/mouse device was broken, but I can select whatever consecutive text I like in any other program by left clicking and draging my mouse over the desired text.

Is there a toggle in OO Writer that I am unaware of that I may have accidentially turned on?

Help...because I am not a good typist and I do not compose my thoughts in print well. Consequently, I have to edit alot.

Hi,

this isn't the normal behavior. Of course, you can select text
portions with the left mouse button and dragging the cursor over
the text you want to select.
I'm not sure, but I've never seen that the user can turn off this
behavior of via the options!?

I'm having exactly the same problem. I can 'select all' from the 'edit' menu. I can double-click to select a word and triple click to select a sentence or paragraph, but I can't drag and select text.

It seems (at least for me) that it's something to do with when I copy and paste text into Writer from other applications etc. This morning working on a new document from scratch, without thinking I dragged to select some text, and it worked just fine...opened up the offending document I was working on a couple of days ago and as before I couldn't drag with the mouse to select text. Most odd.

What app did you get the data from that you pasted in?

I can't remember now exactly. I think it was probably from a web page, though some of it was from a pdf.
