have gotten forms to work pretty well in winxp (OOo 1.1). just set
up OOo 1.1 on a new mandrake linux 9.2 system and am finding
much erratic behaviour. not sure if it's me being new or not.

i thought i was doing things the same as i had in winxp. i set up
a spreadsheet and saved it. i defined it as a data source. i went
to the autopilot to set up a form. all of this seems to work ok. i
picked a background color for the form and saved it.

it's when i go to start customizing the form, resizing field boxes,
changing their positions, things like that, that things seem to get
flaky. selecting field boxes sometimes causes them to jump around.
if i save and reopen the form, and this happens every time i do it, it
loses all its information. my nice blue background is gone and i'm
faced with a plain white page with little outlines where the field
boxes might want to be. there seems to be no text displayed from
the spreadsheet. in my original layout with the blue background
there was white text for the field labels so it's possible that there is
actually some text there and that it's just not visible on the white
background. don't think so, though. i can also cause this
behaviour to happen by pressing the read-only/edit-file button at
the top of my screen. if i set up an autopiloted form and toggle
that button a couple of times the form loses its background and
text. i'm very confused. is this linux version very buggy or am i
just so new to the procedures that i'm forgetting something i'd
gotten familiar with in the winxp environment?

Hi BabaG

In my experience Mandrake 9.2 is extremely flaky. So much so that I have zapped it and gone back to 9.1. Things disappeared with gay abandon from menus, for example install a printer and close off Mandrake Control Centre only to find it has then vanished from the KDE menu along with almost everything else, the only cure being to run the installation again on an upgrade basis. What were you using before 9.2?

I know of no massive differences between OOo 1.1 Linux and Windows, except the Linux one tends not to crash. On perhaps a more positive note, you might see if reducing the colour settings helps.

have just gotten a form to set itself up properly for the first time.
have been very careful with the process of toggling the read-only/
edit-file button as well as the form design button. i found that the
forms that had the problem were being associated as msword docs.
i think this had something to do with the problem. somewhere in
the process of toggling and saving the doc must have gotten
changed from an oo doc to anmsword doc. have no idea how this
happened but seems to have been the cause. will be working with
more forms in the near future and will continue to keep my eyes
open for a pattern in this issue.
