Work out which day from date

Can I somehow work out what day it was on lets say,12th of octobe,r using OpenOffice Calc?

I wan't to the output to be like this: Monday, Tueday, Wednesday etc.

In order to 'display' the day of the week, for a date . . . the easy way to do this with Calc Spreadsheet is:

If, for example, cell A2 contains your date . . . as you described . . . 2006-10-12 . . . in cell B2, put . . . =A2 and, then from the menu:

Format -> Cells... -> on the NUMBERS tab, Category, select Date, Format Code, enter DDDD

This will, display the day of the week, spelled out completely.

If you only want the first three letters of the date, the Format Code, enter DDD

You could, if you wanted, format the cell you entered the date directly, to only display the day of the week.
