|
|
Everything installed and seems to work OK, but I am left with a CD icon labeled OpenOffice.org which I can neither eject nor send to trash --ie, can't get rid of it. What did I do wrong, or how do I remove it from my desktop?
I can find Open Office in my Applications, and an icon on the dock. I can trash the .dmg icons, but the CD icon "is in use and cannot be ejected". Any solutions? |

ok, first, did you actually use a CD or is this the DMG from download?
what it sounds like is that you did not 'install' openoffice but ran it from the DMG. open the folder and drag openoffice.org to your applications folder, a copy dialog will pop up. once it is done, eject the DMG.
it won't eject if you are running it from the DMG. _________________ User Help for OpenOffice.org on the Mac |

| I think I installed it. Dragged the icon to applications and it immediately copied, so I see OO in applications; when I click on it, it opens OO. Got no dialog box though -- does that mean I am running it from the dmg? I tried installing from the CD icon and from the dmg -- got same results. Still can't eject CD icon because "it is in use". Did I miss something? I also tried dragging it over the arrow to Applications on the box showing license and readme, but nothing happened. It copies automatically if I drag it outside the box or into applications. Any suggestions? |

| I am not using an actual CD; it is a dmg download, but somehow, during the installation, I wound up with this CD icon labeled OpenOffice.org. That happened in the beginning, and seems to happen with most downloads. I have a download folder and may have deleted some items from it -- would that cause this problem? |

ok, good. if oo.o is in your applications, then you are running it from the harddrive.
question, have you re-booted? that should clear all of the mounted files on your system.
assuming you are getting just one mount, it sounds like the system has confused the DMG icon with the cdrom icon.
just as a first stab, i'd say to check permissions. _________________ User Help for OpenOffice.org on the Mac |

| Thx, people. I found a solution. Went to Help and searched Ejecting, got lots of things to try. Ended up going to Utilities, Disk Utility, and Unmount -- the thing disappeared! |
