| The Task Pane is opened by default (when opening an application). How do I set Impress to default to *not* opening the Task Pane? |

I hope you can find an answer, I have the same question as you. Also, I would like to know how to avoid Slide Pane to be open by default.
Best regards. |

| Unfortunately, Impress does not remember some user interface settings across sessions. I am sure this has been filed as an issue, and one day, Impress will improve in this area. |

If you dismiss the task pane (click the "X", or "close" it by clicking on the border handle, or un-check it in View > Task Pane), it comes back the next time you open a new Impress window. The rationale is that new users may easily discover how to get rid of the pane, but have a much harder time discovering how to get it back, so the OOo apps always start-up showing the primary UI components.
However, if you shrink the width of the task pane (drag the left border of the task pane to the right), the new width is remembered for the next session. You can make it smaller (to remind you it's still there), down to nothing except for the border.
Same goes for the slide pane on the left side. |

Thank you very much for your answers: shrinking the panes has solved my problem.
Kind regards. |

| Indeed, we are discovering. If you just click on the dotted handle of the pane, it will instantaneously be hidden. Click again on it to show it. Unfortunately, also here, the status is not saved. The width is saved though. |

I too would like panes to remain closed when opening an file in Impress.
Adjusting the size helps but because I have a small screen it is quite frustrating.
Has anyone managed to resolve this? |
