|
|
I have a cell with 3 values possible (yes, no, maybe), which I can set through Data --> Validity --> List.
However, the cell is blank unless the user clicks on the drop down list button. I need one of the three values ("no") to appear in that cell by default. How do I do this please?

Why not just enter "no" in the first cell and drag down to the last cell? (I've missed the point, haven't I?) _________________ search forum by month |

That's a quick and nasty fix. It's a pity the Validity panel in Calc doesn't allow one to set a default value from the list that it allows you to create ...
Also, when you tab into the cell, you should be able to use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select one of the values.
Wishlist for next version? Please? |

my suggestion to you is, use the template instead of spreadsheet i think this will resolve the problem
means open the spreadsheet and save as openoffice document template *.odt |

The validation-feature is nothing more than a input-help for simple spreadsheet-lists. There is nothing which prevents you from clearing, deleting or pasting over validated sheet-cells. A spreadsheet-cell is deliberately designed to take any kind of value.
This is not a database-engine. A database provides all this and so much more, because it is designed for keeping unique items of explicitly declared types of data within explicitly defined ranges, explicitly defined default-values or time-stamps and explicitly defined privileges, related to other tables with unique items of explicitly .... _________________ Rest in peace, oooforum.org
