|

Hi
Why does OO 2.0.4 start up in seconds with network cable plugged in, and almost a minute when I unplug it? Are there any command line keys to stop OO from searching for network?
Why couldn't they implement a non-blocking IO???
Thanks |

This is most likely caused by having a network printer. When OOo starts it searches for the printer. One way to stop it is to change the default printer to a local device but this may rather defeat the purpose. _________________ Arch Linux

Assuming you are in Windows, I got a significant startup speed boost off network when I installed PDFCreator and set that as my default printer. Although I didn't use PDFCreator much with OOo since it has its own built-in PDF capabilities, it came in handy with webpages that I wanted to print when I was off the network. _________________ Laugh at life or life will laugh at you. |

I don't have any printer set up in OO, I don't think I ever opened their Printer Administration tool.
And I don't think this start up behavior was in times of good old 2.0.3...
And I DON'T run Windows thanks to Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Will try to find out what exactly OO 2.0.4 tries to find in the net... |

Same problem here.
Workaround: use ifplugd so when you unplug the cable the eth interface is automatically disabled (and reenabled when you re-plug it...).
If you have gentoo, simply type "emerge ifplugd" and forget the problem. |
