New to forum... Email... What do you use?

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, and obviously to OOo.

I've been tasked with researching OOo, so our company may convert to it.

I was just wondering what you or your company uses for an e-mail client?
We would like to get away from Micro$oft, so something other then Outlook would be great.

With that said, Does your client have a good shared calendar program built in?

Most of our office uses Thunderbird without a calendar. Other mail clients include SquirrelMail and Apple Mail. We have one Apple iCal user and, until last week, one Outlook user too.

Mozilla offers a fledgling calendar called Sunbird or Lightning (depending how you use it). There's more info available about that if you search this forum.

What do you mean by shared? Multiple people reading or also writing to the same calendar? Personally, I use KDE's Korganizer calendar and share it through WebDAV which does not work well with multiple people writing to the same calendar. However, multiple people can read it fine. I have not tried it, but some programs support CalDAV and other calendar storage mechanisms which may work better with multiple people writing to the same calendar.

By shared, I mean one user put in a time and date to schedule a conference room. All the other user can view that scheduled event.

I believe MS exchange did this. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Evolution integrates fairly well with MS Exchange servers. I ran that (on Solaris) while at a primarily Microsoft shop with most users using Outlook.
