The index page shows you the date and time of the last post in each sub-forum. The index page for each sub-forum shows you (in the rightmost column) the date and time of the last post in each thread.
Or have I misunderstood? |
Checking the index page of this forum and then the index pages of several sub-forum pages is what I call "searching". And it is inconvenient compared to get all posts since a certain time listed. I simply prefer to check one list.

Draude, nice to hear from you. Is oooforum on a dedicated box or a shared service? Either way one other thing that you might want to look at is the MySql d/b that is used by phpBB to see what state the tables are in. The tables to look at in particular are the big ones by row volume: php_posts, php_post_text, php_topics. When was the last time that an ANALYZE TABLE or OPTIMIZE TABLE for example? I know that these don't need to be run that often, but I suspect that they haven't been run for years. If oooforum is running an a std LAMP hstong template then you should have MyPhpAdmin running, which makes this easy to do.
This being said, I also noticed one of these slowdowns. It didn't look like brown out to me, more rigormortis!!! //Terry |

Mostly, no.
But sometimes I just have a minute to check for something specific, so I log in and read a message and log out. This resets the "new posts" search and I lose the chance to browse any posts that were "new" in this last quick session. There's no way (that I know of) to get those back into the new posts list. If you could search for "all posts in the last 2 days" then you could re-create the "new-posts" list yourself.
Even better would be an equivalent to the "mark all as read" function in a newsreader, so that the catching-up would be at the user's discretion, not automatic on logout.
Anyway, sorry to have gotten off-topic here. No problems with slow responses in the last couple of days. |

The gremlins are at work tonight.
First, I had trouble getting the index page.
Next, after sending a message, I was unable, from that page, to get the inbox.
When I got the inbox from a link on another page, I was unable to get the outbox. _________________ search forum by month |
