Hi
What I miss in OO compared to MS Word is automatic language select.
That is when I type in English Word would set English for what I type.
It's pretty weird for OO to spell check non-English words using English dictionary, isn't it?
Especially when OO can easily get the info on the language I'm using to type.
Or am I missing something? I've searched the Help and Forum - couldn't find anything... |

I don't think so. As far as I know the only way to seperately apply different spell checkers within a document is to explicitly set the paragraph or charater style to the desired language and apply that style. _________________ jrkrideau

If you right click on a word underlined, OOo will ask you if the word and paragraph are in the language detected. It's not automatic but there is some detection. You can also activate the spell checking in all languages (Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids>...).
But in this case, don't forget to desactivate all the dictionaries you don't need. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |

Word's autodetection of language is buggy and shitty, posing more problems that it solves. So I don't miss it and appreciate OOo's way.
Use styles (search forum and other sources on this issue)! |

Computers were created to help people automating things that were usually done manually, this is given, and language selection is not an exception.
Language autodetection is definitely going to be implemented in OO b/c it dramatically improves it's usability, the only question here is when, not whether.
Or am I missing something?
(btw I haven't met any problems with Word's autodetection, at least Word 2003 one) |

It's one of the things I hated about Word. I turned it off (like the grammar checker) immediately. I sure hope OOo implements it better. _________________ Wiedenfeld |

No. It may be 2.3 because the features list to be considered has been frozen for 2.2. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |
