Hi All,

We have some existing systems written in VBA to allow logging of documents such as purchase orders and quotes with a unique number.

I'm looking into re-writing these to work with OpenOffice V2.1.x.

We basically have a log document (currently Excel) which stores the details of each purchase order.

The process basically works by the user opening a template document to generate a new purchase order.

The details for the new PO are filled in on the template, then a button is clicked which goes away and determines the next available number from the log document, and also stores the basic details in the log along with the unique number. Both the log, and the new PO are then saved.

Can anyone give me a pointer to usefull tutorials that would help me do this sort of thing in OpenOffice.

I'm pretty well versed in VBA, but haven't a clue in OpenOffice BASIC as yet.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

If you're already experienced in VBA then you might want to have a look at Novell's version of OOo - that contains VBA support and so may reduce the amount of conversion work that you need do do.

However, if not then a good palce to start is with Andrew Pitonyak's OpenOffice Macro Information.

On the other hand, if you want to invest a little money then there's Andrews book - OpenOffice.org Macros Explained, or my own - Learn OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet Macro Programming: OOoBasic and Calc automation

This reminds me of the large "Xmas thread" with Frank Billington:

The approach may differ from your current VBA (just guessing: it's based on the infamous invoice template, shipped with Excel?). Hope it helps anyway.
