I encountered a problem in Writer: I have a Table of two rows.
In the first row the text is written in normal way and has only one column.
The second row was split into 8 small cells (8 columns).
In the 8 cells I want to write text running vertically.
I choose character - rotate by 90 degrees. It works fine.
However, when I save the document and next time I open it the characters are just scrambled horizontally in the narrow cells instead of running vertically as I set it before.

I guess you're saving in .doc format. I confirm it does not retain this setting. Could it be a regression ? see this thread : rotation of text.

I've not seen any bug report about that (if it's a regression), you can file one, see here : Rough step-by-step instructions reporting bugs.

You're right I'm saving it in Microsoft Word format.
Saving in OpenDocument format solves the problem, indeed.

In fact there is a bug report : Issue 25140 - Implement 90 deg text rotation in table cells (multi-paragraph, "LTR (vertical)").

This issue seems to contain many things but this problem has been reported :
Quote:
Btw, when I save this table with vertical text in "MS Word 97/2000/XP" format I get horizontal text after reopening .doc file, should I file another bugreport about this ?

And a bug reporting this very issue has been closed, duplicate of the Issue 25140 : Issue 35246 - Word Wrapping with Rotated Text in Word2k Table.

You can vote for it. You can also add the tag '[Issue]' at the beginning of your first post title to warn users that there is a bug report and they can vote for it.

For information, a nice workaround has just been found on the French forum : you simply have to use a character style. Create one with the rotation setting in the Position tab of the character style, apply it to the text to be rotated. Even after saving in .doc format, the setting remains.

You can retag this thread with [Workaround] or [Solved], up to you.
