Toolbar button skin sets exist (Crystal, Industrial, Default, high contrast and Tango ) but no skinning in the Mozilla way.

You can change the items that are on menus and toolbars to get them were they are in MS Office or any other way you like.

I was able to locate ZIP files with names like you listed in the /share/config folder. Is this where OOo finds and references the skin files? I tried duplicating and renaming one of the ZIP files, testing whether OOo would pick it up as a new skin -- it didn't work. How exactly does one add a new toolbar skin set into OOo's reperitoire? I'll work towards modifying the standard set to look more like the MS Office XP toolbar, if someone can tell me how to make OOo recognize it.

And yes, this is my first post on the forums. So much for an introductory post.

No you can't do that IIRC. But you can use one of these styles that you don't use, change its content if you know how to do that and set OOo to use it afterwards.

Is there any plans for other toolbar skins to be developed? Again, I could start working on an Office XP-based skin if there is a calling for it.

I'm not entirely sure, however, if those are the files that OOo references to build the toolbar skins. If so, it would be a simple changing of files inside the ZIP to change the skin. And if not...I don't know.

There is an enhancement request here : Issue 18829 - Support for skins. You can subscribe, vote (up to 2 votes per issue) and add a comment, especially if you want to provide something (like a modified style package), you can upload it there so that users can test it.

I'm starting work on the toolbar, but I have literally thousands of images to comb through to find the right ones to replace. Can anyone give me some help on finding the right images? I'm first trying to skin the toolbars used by Writer, because that's what I use the most often.

There is a size limitation on the icons you can use. At least, there was and probably still is. It's a strange size 26 * 26 IIRC) and it's mentioned in one of the dialogues you get to from Tools >Customise.

Right now, I'm just working on the sc_ images (16x16) because that's what appears in my toolbars. I don't know if I'm permitted to include images in posts, but I have a screenshot of the work I've done on the toolbar so far. Of course it's far from complete, but this is the sort of thing I was working at.

As I said before, I can't seem to find all the corresponding sc_ images for the options in the toolbar you see above. If anyone can give me a list of the images used in the above setting, I'd definitely appreciate it. (That Styles and Formatting image is extremely elusive.)

That's a screenshot of OOo in action? That looks nice! Lots of people here didn't like gradient toolbars and don't like the idea of OOo looking like MSO, but it looks like you're doing a great job.

As I'd mentioned before, I was trying to change the toolbars in Writer to look like MSO.

Strange. In that issue 18829, people were tossing around the notion that it's the appearance that drives people to MSO rather than OOo.

Any way you go about it, I would like to have your "skin" available when you get it finished.

(Sorry if I'm grave-digging this post. I just want to make this known.)

I have been able to dig up, from an old email archive, the work I had been able to do so far towards the Office XP skin. I am sorry to say that I cannot spare the time to continue work on the skin, but anyone may take this skin and use it as is, or continue work on it themselves and publish it like I have.

I've been looking for something like this for a while. I'm going to continue mjponso's skin in my spare time. I'll put it up here when I've got something good going.
