I'm trying to pasting unformatted data, in columns separated by tabular. Some of the numbers seems to be interpreted as dates! WHY?? I've tried changing my configuration, I defined number as default, redefining the cells which turned into dates (which only returned some sort of datenumber). I've tried copying from several different programs. The text is pure ASCII. I can't see why open office should have an automated stupid function like this.

Does anybody have an explanation, and how to solve this problem?

Thanks

kungamord,

Could you give an example of some numbers that are interpreted as dates?

Sure!

8.78 turns into 07-05-15
15.52 turns into 07-05-19
12.29 turns into 00-07-01

and so on...

Don't seem to be any patterns

Another set of questions: in the list of cell formats (Menu Format>Cells, either in the category Date, or the category User defined, is there any format that looks like d.m or m.y which may mislead OOo in the interpretation of a number? Are you using an English version of OOo? What is your decimal point delimiter? How are dates normally represented in your default settings (Menu FIle>Properties>General, field creation)

I'm not using a english version, I'm using the swedish version. My decimal delimiter is set in windows to '.' though the stupid swedish standard is ','

The cells are set to number, with three decimals.

Can't find any field creation options in the general section in the properties from the file-menu.

Sorry, was unclear. If you click on File>Properties, in the tab General, you see the creation date of your current file. What is its format?
