Hi,

If I open from a Windows client a file stored in a samba share I have to wait for about 10 to 15 seconds before to see the page. It seems like it looks for something before load the page.
I also did a test with another computer server and I got the same result.

I think is not a Samba problem because I tested it with other files and programs (Word too) and they were ok and fast.

The server is Debian/Etch and Samba 3.0.24-6
Clients OpenOffice 2.0 & 2.2 with both Windows XP Home and Professional.

Thanks for your help.

That sounds like a new problem.

We have OpenOffice.org 2 Windows clients (many different versions) connecting to Samba 3.0 (Trustix Secure Linux 2.2), but after many years, there is never such a delay.

OOo has problems with UNC paths and certain letters in host names, so you may want to try mapping UNC paths to drive letters. However, the typical symptoms are (a) an error and (b) not loading the document.

You might try searching the Issue Tracker

I forgot to say that it happen randomly and if I open the same document 10 times perhaps I receive 2 good results or even 8. You can't say how many before.

I'll try mapping UNC paths to drive letters and let you know.

Thank you.

Hi, thank you a lot for help.

I've solved the problem mapping UNC paths to drive letters. Now it sounds good.
Anyway the problem is not in Samba or OOo alone because before mapping the paths I tried again with another client - a notebook with XP Home - and It was ok. I tried configuring params networks to be the same and disabling the firewall but that didn't bring good news.
