Can you provide some more details?
- Version of OOo?
- Version of Excel?
- Platform?
- How are you trying to open it at present? |

I'm having exactly the same issues here.
The XLS file is from a German customer. It will not open in OO.org 1.1.1 on Windows but it will open in Microsoft Excel 2000. It comes up with the ASCII Filter Options dialog and wants to try and import it in to Writer and not Calc.
I can E-mail the XLS if anyone would be interested in solving this issue. |

Are these Excel files actually CSV files ?
In which please refer to recent postings about this ..... in short with File Open dialogue select CSV file type to get round OOo opening as Writer file. _________________ /Jeremy |

I may be a simple Aussie, but I'm not THAT simple!
It is definately an Excel file. I would post the file somewhere but it is an order spreadsheet that a customer has sent us. I can't edit the document and then save it because it'll save it in a format that is then readable by OOo (trying to get rid of Excel here). I'll happily E-mail it to an OOo dev that handles Excel import though. |

No need to take it personally!
Just your symptoms were similar to ones I had when trying to import Excel CSV files. _________________ /Jeremy |

It is definately a binary file and it definately opens in Excel 2000. If I save it out of Excel again it will open in OpenOffice. But we don't want to be having to do this as we are attempting to replace Excel on any new desktops. |
