|
|
hi... is it not possible to create other-language sub-forums here , which are not native to english?
i think there is kind of a 'reservation' for people who are not familiar with english to ask questions about their problems with ooo ... i see lots of 'scattered' questions about ooo on other forums which aren't specific ooo-focussed (for example 'general'-software-forums).

Your nick indicates a German origin. Try http://oooforum.de/
No, the moderators can not add more sub-forums. The one and only administrator of this forum does not care about content. He just keeps it running.
And then there are mailing lists like comp.openoffice.general.german |

nope...my nickname indicates a Flemish origin ( Dutch-speaking side of Belgium ) ... i tried to link on http://oooforum.nl/ or http://oooforum.be/ ...but those apparently don't exist...for me personally it is not such a big obstacle , but i think for many non-English speaking people it is... |

Ah, I see. This forum is tolerant and polite, objective at least. Almost no personal offenses nor rants (except for the general forum -sometimes).
There is also http://nl.openoffice.org/ with a link to http://nl.openoffice.org/about-mailinglist.html |

I'd love to use my native language, but I realize the fact that English is the closest we get to a universal standard for international communication. I.e., most people worldwide (I guess... at least those likely to use office software) can use English, or know someone who can. Hence, if I use English...:
- my questions have a better chance of being answered.
- my answers reach out, directly or indirectly, to a larger number of users.
- I improve my English.
That's why the second best choice is the optimal solution (as it often happens). |

Another forum should be coming online which should provide for other languages - or at least they have them in mind during the current creation phase. _________________ --

hello...with the WGA(Windows Genuine Advantage) and now the OGA(Office Genuine Advantage) from microsoft 'introduced' in my country , there are lots of people switching from illegal MS Office use to OpenOffice use ,... so there are also many folks who cannot express how to deal with their questions in English ... so my question : is there allready some progress with those 'OpenOffice-other-languages-forums'... ?? |

Yes. The forum Andrew talked about has been launched 16 months ago: http://user.services.openoffice.org. If you want to setup a new area however, you need some volunteers to act as moderators, and a user base if possible, willing to develop their language forum. _________________ Now on the EN user community forum |
