Hello all.

I want to use OpenOffice on a (Linux) web server to export PowerPoint versions of dynamically-generated OO slide presentations and am seeking how to make the bare minimum instal that will reduce instal size yet retain the necessary functionalities. Another objective is to have OO start-up as quickly as possible when called on the server so users don't have a lot of latency.

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

Instal is from a download of the Linux x86 version OOo_1.1.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz

The presentations are being generated by:

I - Preparation
a) prepare presentation template in OO
b) export as XML and store on server

II - Online Session
c) open XML file on server with Perl and modify required variables
d) start OO on server using Python bridge
e) load modified file
f) re-export through powerpoint filter & save to disk
g) redirect user to newly created file

Thanks in advance.

My ISP has just informed me that they don't run X and will not. The instal guide says

"Note: The setup progam must be run from within an X-session. It cannot be run from the command line."

Am I fubar?
