Hi, I'm new here and hope to begin with a good subject. Sorry for my english, I'll try to be understood.

I inserted in a rectangle form an image to make a background. So I save my file, re-open it, and inserted a new image as a background. I repeated the operation several times, and so the size of the file became very big (8MB).

I try to delete my background and save the file, but the size stay the same. How can I save my file to be sure any pictures don't be save with it ?

Thank you for helping.

When you open the dialog to insert the image, you can check the box that says "Link." That way your file will be much smaller.

You're completely right and I think you've found a bug Arnault ! I can reproduce that also. In fact, the pics are kept in the /pictures folder of the .odt file.

I've filed a bug report here : Issue 82099 - Bitmap for shape background kept even if deleted.

I've also spotted another bug and filed another report : Issue 82100 - Picture as shape background converted to PNG instead of keeping its file format

You should subscribe and vote for both (up to 2 votes per issue).

What format was the image in? What format did you save your document in?

Well, thank you for the bug report link.

I tried with a bmp file, and after with severals jpg files. I deleted them before to insert another instead. But the deleted background seemed to stay inside the file.

I don't understand this thing of /picture folder. Could you tell me more ? Is it inside the file ?

Thank you

edit : each times, the name of picture files that I used was different.

ODF format is an archive containing several folders and XML files. Rename your .odt in .zip and open it with any archive manager. Pics used in the file are stored in the folder /Pictures, the text is in the content.xml file for example. You can have more information on the wikipedia page of ODF, see here.
