| I have a folder with text documents and spreadsheets and when I open a file in Writer I would like it to list only text documents and when I open in Calc I only want to display spreadsheets. Is this possible? |

| I should have said I want the open dialog to default to only spreadsheets. I know I can display only spreadheets by selecting that option but it's a bit of a pain. |

Please don't double post, even if your question applies to both Calc and Writer. It simply fragments the responses and makes everyone have to deal with two threads for one topic. I've removed the duplicate Writer thread since your title includes "Calc". Thanks!
Now, as to your question: no, there's no way to do it.
If you search, you'll see there was just a big discussion about this very topic: http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=61436 |

Windows? Why do people not generally use Windows as "Windows". It is designed to multitask, and has a great drag and drop feature. I open my 2-panel file manager and the window containing my OpenOffice shortcuts, both sized accordingly, then drag and drop. If I want a new one, I re-size the OO window, and drag and drop the new file into there. Works like a charm. One click, its smaller, click it's maximised. It's simple and effective.
