A friend has sent me a new excel spreadsheet with some ms instructions in german.
It opens fine in calc but I am stuck with a few words.
Does anyone know what "Seriendruck" means in a german excel programme please.
Info says to click right and select "Seriendruck"

Thanks very much

Official translation of Seriendruck is standard pressure !

Hi smokey,

You may always use a translation service, e.g. http://dict.leo.org/

Entering "Seriendruck" and klicking "Go" will yield: "mail merge"

but in fact implies "a method to produce a large number of copies".

This may be a large number of any printed matter (leaflets, books or mails).

If you are dissatisfied with the results of translations you may also enter questions into the Leo's forum. Some translations will also be provided by using Wikipedia by entering a foreign word in a selected language and then switch to the corresponding English topic.

Regards -Hans-

Thanks for the help.
I used this to find a translation
http://uebersetzer.abacho.de/

However I am still stuck.......
Where is ----- Entering "Seriendruck" and klicking "Go" will yield: "mail merge"
in "Open Office"
I do not have excel so not sure where to start.
My friend sent me a word doc which I opened in Open Office Writer
and a excel doc which I opened in Calc.
The instructions were to save in the same file.
The word/writer doc were instructions on how to use the mail merge as an example
but I cannot find the "Go" key in Calc to test it out.
Thank you for your help.

You will find documentation to OOo's "mail merge"-functionality by entering "mail merge" as a search string in this forum, e.g.:

http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=12&highlight=mail+merge

Please follow the guidelines and ask for further help if needed.

Regards -Hans-

Thanks again for the help. I found this -
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/0211WG-UsingMailMerge.pdf

I had not realised spreadsheets could be used for mail merge so when I started chatting to a friend in Germany they kindly sent me an example copy not realising I use Open Office rather than ms.
So although I have opened the docs okay I was rather stuck.
Appreciate the advice.

Hi smokey,

Glad you solved your problem.
To do other users a favour please change the title of your first posting to e.g.:
[Solved] Mail merge with Open Office

Thank you very much for the help. I have changed the title of first posting as suggested.
Have now taken my example and followed wizzard instructions and all seems to work okay. Is this the better/normal way of organising a mail merge. I have only a few hundred names to sort but can the spreadsheet format sort and find names as well !

Thanks again
