I have this problem also. Is there any fix for it? If I open a powerpoint with Openoffice, I cannot edit any of the objects. If I open it with Openoffice on a computer that actually has MS Office on it, then Openoffice lets me edit the object. Is there a plugin or something that I can install so that Impress can edit Powerpoint objects?
Thanks.

By default, at least in my version (on Linux), conversion options for embedded objects are checked (Tools - Options, Load/save). This would mean that a Powerpoint object upon loading is converted to a Presentation object, and would therefore be edited by Impress.
Perhaps these options are OFF by default on a windows system, where MS Office might be installed. Then, the objects will (obviously) be editable only provided MS Office is installed. Be sure that when I send you a Word document with an embedded Calc spreadsheet, MS Word will throw the same error.
Bottom line: check settings in "Tools - options, Load/Save - Microsoft office". _________________ --

I looked and those were not checked. I did check them but it made no difference.
If anyone would have an idea then please let me know. Here is a page out of the presentation if seeing it would help any. I put them up in both formats.

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do to fix this problem or is that just an Openoffice bug?
Thanks.
