|
|
I've got 3 documents created in Microsoft Word Home and Student Edition. When I double-click on the file, I get this Filter Selection box with a ton of options there, none of which mean anything to me. I tried highlighting a few of them, like Word XP/2000 and such, but all I get is "Error reading file."
Supposedly, OpenOffice is supposed to be able to open Word documents, but I'm not able to do it so far. And I did tell the install program to associate OpenOffice with Word documents, so I don't see what the hangup is. |

There are several file formats that can be referred to as “MS Word”. Specify exactly, what version of MS Word you use and in what format the documents are saved to. _________________ AOO 3.4.1, LibO 4.0 / Windows 7 & openSUSE Linux 11.3, 12.2 |

| What version of OOo are you using? DocX is not fully supported until V3.0. Search the forum for Docx to find some alternatives. Or Use Word 2007 and do a Save As 97/2000/XP on your files. OOo can open these formats. Here is one link I found http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=70248&highlight=docx . |

| We're having wonderful problems with docx at work - some people have Office07 and others not. Great fun! I've sent a couple of odf files around just to help - then protest that anyone should be able to open and use them as it is an ISO standard format. |
