Impossible task with datafeed?

Hi,

I've got a datafeed from a merchant where the categories for the thousands of products are currently useless. I want to import the feed into Joomla, but the categories all start with a / and then go on to have endless subcategories, some of which include the brand name of the product.

Example: ////companyx/electric toaster
/household/detergents/dishes/companyYsoap

I'd like to have electric toaster as its own category, and dish detergent as its own category. In this example.

I want to keep it simple, with at most a main category and a subcategory.

I don't know where to begin prepping this feed.

Bummer. Ideas?
