5mb pdf limitation?

As soon as I drop a 5mb tif into a document it locks up. I am trying to export to pdf. Any advice?

I tried a bmp file also and that will not work either.

I cannot reproduce a problem.

First I needed to create a big TIF file.
1. Launch The GIMP 2.0.
2. Create new file 2000x2000 pixels, 32 bit color.
3. Filters --> Render --> Clouds --> Plasma.
4. Click OK to accept default settings.
5. File --> Save A Copy....
6. Save as....
C:\Documents and Settings\dbrewer\Desktop\Plasma.tif

Checking the size of the file, it is 11.7 MB.

Try with Draw...
1. In OOo, Create a new drawing.
2. Insert --> Graphics (select file, insert it)
3. File --> Save As.... (Plasma.sxd)
Drawing is over 11 MB.
4. File --> Export as PDF... (Plasma.pdf)
I optimized for Press. PDF file ends up 445K.

I also tried a similar procedure in Writer.
I get an 11.4MB Writer file, and a 25KB PDF file. (In Writer I scrunched the graphic way small -- so that must have affected the size of the PDF -- very interesting.)

Do you have any additional details that might help?
I'm on Win XP Pro, and OOo 1.1.0.


BTW, The GIMP 2.0 on Windows is very cold. Much colder than the older GIMP 1.2.5 for Windows.

Well I am using win98se. I have tried it over and over again even after rebooting and I have tried many different file formats, bmp jpg tiff etc. Each time the picture appears but as soon as i move to resize it or move it, the standard bug report form pops up and allows me to send and email. after which everything closes.

well I uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to work now. I tried the repair option first but that didnt do anything so I uninstalled rebooted and re installed.
