From the help index, select bullet - then select "Creating "Creating Numbered and Bulleted lists as you type" The help info specifies that you need to go to TOOLS > AutoConnect then check the box for "Apply numbering - symbol:"
This is not sufficient. It makes auto numbering lists operate correctly but NOT bulletited lists.
You need to also check the box for "Replace bullets with: :"
