When I write a document and run the spell check it does not recognise plurals. As soon as I add a 'd' or an 's' at the end of a word it comes up as incorrect. Unless a word is in its pure form it comes up as incorrect. For example "to view" is recognised but 'viewed' and 'views" are marked as incorrect. My default language is English and it appears to be correctly set accross the document being checked. Is there some sort of setting that I should change or is this a lack of words in the dictionary? I get the same responses weather I use the us, uk or sa dictionary.

There must be something wrong with your installation. I typed both "views" and "viewed" into a Writer document, and neither was marked as incorrect.

I'm using OOo 3 with the default UK English dictionary.

I get the same thing. "Views" works for me, but "viewed" is shown as a spelling error. Many other words also show up as spelling mistakes, e.g. "contributing", "authors", "introduced", "companies", "institutions", "industries", "neglected", "beautiful", etc., etc.

If I right-click on, e.g., beautiful, it suggests: beautify, beautification, beautician and beauteous.

This is with "English (South Africa)". If I specify English (US) or English (UK) for the document I don't have the problem.

Hey I'm having the same problem:

After I add a new word to the dictionary like "summand" it works perfectly fine, but as soon as I write the plural "summands" it puts the wavy line underneath.
If I add "summands" it overwrites "summand" and it takes the singular as incorrect.
I'm using English US as the default language.

Try Tutorial Spell check and Language configuration and [Troubleshooting] Spell check in OOo 3.x.

If that doesn't help, please also tell us what version of OOo you use.

Sorry I haven't been here for a while, I'm gonna check the tutorials above for sure, in the meantime I'm dealing with this issue by creating a custom dictionary 'My Dictionary' where I add the plurals that are not recognized. In case they're marked as incorrect, Razz that's my temporary solution but it works fine.
As soon as I have checked the info above, I'll let you know. Thanks.
