|
|
Hi
Currently writing a dissertation and I think that I should really have outlined nubered the chapters and other sub-headings etc. Applying multi-level numbering from the Outline Numbering menu is fine, however I need to do something a little different. I have the following type of structure;
Acknowledgements
Abstarct
Table of Contents
Illustrations
Chapter 1
Introduction
About the Organisation
Etc
Chapter 2
Research Aims
I want the numbering to start from Chapter 1. However, as the Acknowledgement etc is titled with Heading 1 style, they automatically get numbered. I need it to be Heading 1 as I want it to appear in my TOC.
Anyone got any thoughts please?
Thanks

At Tools > Outline Numbering select say Level 9 and make sure no numbering type is assigned then use the Heading 9 style for such items. (Optional – edit Heading 9 style to match Heading 1 in appearance.)
In the TOC dialog click the Styles tab, on the right select Content 1, on the left select Level 9 and click the < button. |

Hi - thanks for your quick reply.
Managed to get what I need from your instructions. Just a small point that I would like to address if you can help?
The outline numbering now reads similar to this.
1.Chapter 1
I would like to introduce space between the 1. and Chapter (currently very close with no space at all). Any ideas how I can do this?
Thanks again.

In the normal document:
At Tools > Outline Numbering the After box should contain
.<space>Chapter
but I suspect you are talking about the TOC.
In the TOC:
Select Entries tab.
Click in blank box between E & E# and tap the spacebar once or twice.
