crossing out a column or row with an X

I want to design a planner/schedule
and I've seen other spreadsheet schedules
that have an X through one column or row to indicate 'unavailable' or null or some sort
how do I do this in OOo?

Could it be diagonal borders?
Format|Cells... Borders tab.
