Auto-recovery options

I have OpenOffice3.1.1 and WindowsXP service pack 2.

Whenever OpenOffice crashes and i re-open the application it asks for auto recovery.
Since most of the time I have too many files opened in OOo auto recovery hangs my system. I want to disble the auto recovery process.

How should I do it? How should I avoid auto-recovery when i restart the application.

Tools--->Options---->Load/Save and uncheck the box that says "Save Autorecovery information every".
Make sure you do check the box that says "Always create a backup copy". This way you will have at least an older version available when a crash occurs.

But how can the crashing be avoided because it happens frequently especially when working with the files created in Microsoft Office. This is a serious bottleneck in migrating from Microsoft office to OpenOffice as I have a lots and lots of files already created in Microsoft Office.

Document converter is there to convert Microsoft Office file into OpenOffice but again it can convert only Microsoft Office2003 files and not Microsoft Office 2007 files.

How can I overcome this situation.

It does converts Microsoft Office 2007 files into Openoffice file formats.

Are there options where it is possible to convert more than one file into Openoffice formats.

Other observation regard .pptx file is that the bullets and the tables go haywire when conveting into .odp files.

Are there other converters available besides this?
