|
|
I use OO in German to write my thesis in English.
When I label a table or figure it automatically creates a numbered entry like "Table 1: ..." in German although I have set the document to English.
How can I change the automatically inserted terms? Do I have to install OO in English? |

Hallo,
Menu Extras > Optionen > OpenOffice.org Writer > AutoBeschriftung
There you can change the texts for tables, frames, figures, etc. _________________ Bernard

Thanks a lot for your help!
You can't change "Tabelle" (German) to "table" (English) there. If I try to click into the field with "Tabelle" a sound tells me that I can't edit here. It's only to set up how the terms are inserted automatically - like "Tabelle 1" or "1. Tabelle". |

Oops.. did not find this stupid limitation.
2 solutions :
- Install the english langpack (but you will only have the predefined english text)
- Edit the text in the caption of every table. _________________ Bernard

U.S. English version. I can change Table to anything I like, including a nonsense, at the referenced location. The box by Table must be checked.
FWIW, when you select Caption you should also be able to change it in the Category box and that change will remain active until changed again. |

Ah yes ! The names in the listbox "Category" can be changed
The name you write here will be used for Tables, if you have selected the Table checkbox (that you already checked).
And the caption will be written in a new style with this same name.
Not really obvious, and not described in help. Thanks _________________ Bernard

Now it's working, thank you!
And if you insert a "list of tables" you have to make sure that you use the new name in the settings, for example "Table" instead of "Tabelle".
I didn't expect OO to be so dynamic. |
