|
|
Usually when I make a file or presentation, I find a file which looks like this: .~lock.canada.ppt# where "canada" was the name of my file.
How can I stop OOo from making these files, please? I *never* want them. Ever.
Thank you. _________________ more at http://www.sticksite.com/ |

Why not? they are part of how open office works - they are lock files to prevent multiple access and changes to a file by different users. If you use OpenOffice you get lock files but they go away when you close the document anyway (if it closes down cleanly) so why do you find them a problem? _________________ Kubuntu 11.10 LibreOffice3.4.4 |

To me, they are just a nuisance; confusing the issue. There should be an option to turn it OFF but I can't find it. _________________ more at http://www.sticksite.com/ |

you can't turn them off they are part of the system, same way as loads of other programs generate lock files and temp files. If they offend you that much stop looking at hidden files (at least they are hidden files on Linux - you don't mention what OS you are using but I guess they are hidden on Windows or MacOS as well) _________________ Kubuntu 11.10 LibreOffice3.4.4 |

thanks, peterroots. I use Windows 7 and they are not hidden. I have LOTS of other programs but NONE do this so I think the developers might be advised to consider adding an option to turn this off. _________________ more at http://www.sticksite.com/ |

Well, I just looked on Windows XP and they are hidden so maybe it is a feature of Windows 7. Perhaps you should ask Microsoft what they changed between XP and 7? And why they changed it? _________________ Kubuntu 11.10 LibreOffice3.4.4 |
