|
|
Hi guys, wondering if anyone would know the remedy here please. Trying to sort a column of cuurency amounts from highest so choosing "decreasing" but instead of running from top to bottom as say... £350, £300, £250, £100, £80, £70, £60, £50... It runs... £80, £70, £60, £50, £350, £300, £250, £100.
So it see's the highest value 1-9 first.
Using 3.2 on Windows 7. |

How are you inputing the £? It sounds as if you have actually entered the symbol and turned the column into a character rather than numeric column.
If so you would need to remove the £ and transform the values into numeric _________________ jrkrideau

Weekly for work I copy 'amounts' from a table online and paste into a column of some 300 rows. Then I need to sort from highest to lowest. The unit I copy already has the £ in front.
You don't want me to remove each £ sign from each of the 300 rows manually do you? |

You do have to remove the pound signs from those cells.
Use Find & Replace to replace them with nothing.
Select one of those cells then double click or press F2 then select the pound sign then Ctrl+C to copy it.
Select all the cells with the pound sign to be removed.
Go Edit|Find & Replace or Ctrl+F to bring up the "Find & Replace" dialog.
Click in the "Search for" box then Ctrl+V to paste the pound sign.
Leave the "Replace with" box empty.
"Match case" and "Entire cells" should not be ticked.
Click the "More Options" button then tick "Current selection only".
Select "Values" from the "Search in" combo box.
Make search direction "Rows".
Click "Replace All"
You should see all of the pound signs disappear and the numbers move to the right side of their cell, provided the cell format is Number General. Change the cell format to currency.
If they should now sort correctly.
