I am hoping someone will be kind enough to check my formula to see where I have gone wrong.
I am trying to add up the number of times "0" zero appears in column E.
This is what I have tried

=COUNTIF(E8:E4000,"0")

Thanks very much

You are now counting how many times the text-string "0" occurs. And you should use the semicolon between arguments:

Code:
=COUNTIF(E8:E4000;0)

Thanks very much for the help.

Also, although not essential is there an easy way to make the count
only read a single "0" in a cell rather than counting for instance 100 in a cell
as two "O's" in the total.

Thanks

PS Actually the total number of cells which are not a single "0" would also
give me the information.......

Are you sure that is what it is doing? Here it only counts the cells that are 0, not those that are 10 or 100. If you change one of the cells that contain 0 to 10, does the count change?

PS After looking at it again, I found that it actually does not matter if you use "0" or 0 in the formula, it was just the comma that was your problem

Just double checked - COUNT versus COUNTIF makes a big difference...
It is only counting a single "0" in a cell....

Thanks again
