Can we paste spreadsheet cells in the chart data table

When we insert a chart into a presentation slide, Impress insertes a general purpose column chart. This chart can be edited and modified according to our requirement. At the back of this general purpose chart there is a data table, which too can be edited to reflect actual data.
I have tried to paste data from my spreadsheet into this data table, and I found that I can not do this. In the absence of this feature, the only way to change the data (in the chart data table ) is by manual editing. This makes the whole process very cumbersome.

Is there no way by which this data underlying the chart can be modified by pasting from some spreadsheet.
Incidently in MS-Office you can do this.
