Hi. I'm new to OO and used to use Microsoft Access.

I'm trying to work out how to add new fields to an OO Base database and make the new fields correctly display the data. (I can see how to add a field but can't see how to link it to the correct data). In Access, I used to just change the data source.

Can anyone recommend a good book to read (on or off-line) which would cover this kind of thing? So far I've either found stuff that's too simple (e.g. creating a form from a wizard) or too complex (e.g. advanced programming methods)

Any guidance would be appreciated! I'm happy to study the documenation if I can just find the right book(s)!

Base is the youngest of the OOo applications and its documentation is still in its earliest stages. There are several sources available on the Web.

Relating to your specific request Solveig supplies a good tutorial explaining how to add form controls to a Writer form at
http://openoffice.blogs.com/forms_fromscratch.pdf,
most of which applies similarly to a form in Base.

The Getting Started with Base at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOo3_User_Guides/Getting_Started/Creating_a_database_form
beginning at the "Modifying a form" section explains how to edit controls.

More generally you may find helpful Dai's videos at
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/Tutorials

The Base & Database section of http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OOoHelpOutline offers pointers to many useful resources.
