mathematical and Greek symbols

I use the Greek %varphi in mathematical formulas.
When I open the formula again to change something, the symbol %varphi automatically changes to wp (Weierstrass p-function). Can anybody say why this happens, and how it can be avoided?

I can't repeat the problem on OOo3.2.0 on Linux.

I am using Windows - sorry for the Linux users
Moreover it does not always happen, strangely enough!
